My name is Stella Oh, and I’m running with the Peachy team in the Guild elections to be the 2024 editors of QUT’s student magazine, Glass.
I am an international student from Malaysia, currently in my second year of a double major in Journalism and Justice. I’m all about digging deep, asking questions, and sharing stories that matter. Whether it’s investigating cults or crafting guides on the essentials of McDonald’s, I’m dedicated to making sure every story is told with impact.
I’ve contributed to Glass with pieces like the Shincheonji Cult story and the Glassie Guides Special Edition 2024: A Glassie’s Guide to Buying McDonald’s. My focus is on investigative pieces and features, where I aim to uncover the stories that often go unnoticed and make them relatable and engaging for everyone.
When it comes to journalism, I’m all about neutrality with no political affiliations and no biases. I’m committed to telling the truth as it is, without colouring it with my own views. It’s my job to make sure you get the facts, plain and simple.
My journey as a journalist has been a personal triumph. Growing up with dyslexia meant that reading and comprehension were my greatest struggles. Writing felt like a mountain I could never climb, filled with grammar errors and spelling mistakes. Choosing to become a journalist wasn’t just a career choice rather an act of empowerment. Today, I find meaning in telling other people’s stories, especially those whose voices are often overlooked.
My passion is giving everyone a voice, especially the communities that often get lost in the noise. With Peachy, I’m here to make sure that Glass is not just about talking but about listening and amplifying the voices that deserve to be heard.
If I am elected with my team for Media Editors 2024, here’s what you can expect:
- We want to grow the student journalism community at QUT, hosting bigger and better events that bring students together and elevate what Glass can offer.
- We will make sure more students are involved with the Guild and actively engage the international student community in everything we do, ensuring that every voice is represented and valued.
