From Support to Success: Building a Stronger International Student Community

Hi, my name is Manya Sharma, and I’m an international student from Delhi, India, studying for a Bachelor of Business. I’m running for the position of International Student Officer because I believe in the power of community and support. As an international student myself, I understand the challenges we face — from feeling out of place in a new environment to navigating academic, social, and cultural differences.

Many students, especially at the beginning of their journey, feel overwhelmed trying to adapt to a new setting, often feeling disconnected and unsure of where to turn for help. I want to change that. I believe every student deserves to feel like they belong, and through organised events, cultural exchanges, and accessible resources, I aim to make QUT a more welcoming place for international students. With nearly 10,000 international students enrolled, it’s vital that we have a strong support system, and I want the Guild to be that backbone — always there to help students feel at home, and to offer practical support for any struggles they may face.

My vision for improving student life revolves around creating a platform where students can find both friendship and guidance. From peer mentoring programs to mental health initiatives, I plan to ensure that no student struggles in silence. In the future, I see the Guild becoming a crucial pillar for international students, offering them not just a community, but a voice.

This election is about more than just leadership — it’s about giving international students the representation and resources they deserve. Your vote is your voice, and by participating, you ensure that the issues we face are heard and addressed. The Guild plays a key role in shaping student life, and with your support, I aim to make it a source of strength for all international students.
