Hey everyone! My name is Louis Nguyen, and I’m running for President and NUS Delegate in this year’s Guild elections because I’m passionate about addressing issues for all QUT students. As a second-year finance student, I’ve had the opportunity to get involved in student life, see the highs and areas that could be improved. The Guild should drive student success and well-being, and I want to be a part of that movement.

I firmly believe in equality, inclusivity, transparency and student empowerment. My political stance aligns with these values, and transparency is the most effective way for students to understand more about Guild. As a student union, the Guild represents students to raise their voices and tell their needs. The more understanding there is about Guild, the more issues can be solved. The Guild reflects a diverse and supportive community where all students feel heard and represented.

I’m mainly focused on mental health support, affordable housing, transparent Guild operation, internships and ensuring that every student has access to the resources they need to succeed—financial assistance, academic support, and well-being services.

My vision for the Guild includes focusing on student welfare, sustainability, and making student life more enjoyable. If elected, I plan to:

  • Create more accessible support for students struggling with stress and academic pressure.
  • Publishing Guild activities to QUT students.
  • Collaborate with local businesses and student organizations to offer more discounts and affordable services that make a living in Brisbane as a student more manageable.
  • Collaborate with companies to expand opportunities to get internships for QUT students.
  • Organising more inclusive events that cater to a broader range of interests and backgrounds, fostering a stronger sense of community.

Looking forward, I see the Guild becoming a more powerful advocate for students in all aspects of their university life. We must push for more student involvement in decision-making processes, particularly regarding campus development and student services. This election is vital because it determines how our voice as students is represented. The Guild should be a key player in shaping the university’s future, ensuring that QUT remains a student-centred environment.

Your vote matters. This election is about more than choosing a candidate—it’s about shaping our experience at QUT. The Guild is your voice; by voting, you’re ensuring your concerns and ideas are taken seriously. We need strong leadership to ensure our rights are protected, our interests are heard, and our university experience is the best it can be.
