Karsten Duvel: Revive candidate for President and NUS Delegate

Glass invited all Guild election candidates to submit a statement explaining why they are running and why they deserve your vote. This is your chance to hear directly from those who want to represent you—so take a moment to get to know their priorities and visions for the future.

Voting opens on Monday, 21st October 2024. You can check out the rest of the candidate statements here.

As a student at QUT, I saw a need, a need for strong, stable leadership throughout the Guild. For the past two years, Guild executives have neglected their commitments, walking straight into paying jobs without any real opposition. They have taken their positions for granted and have not been serving students at QUT.

In the past 12 months, the Guild has faced a significant period of instability, with four Presidents and at least 16 resignations. Of the current officers, only three were elected during the 2023 elections, while the remaining positions have seen appointees who subsequently resigned and were replaced.

This culture must change. Students have asked – and my team and I have listened.

We are focused, united and eager to hit the ground running. Revive is committed to ensuring stability within the Guild and offering progress instead of stagnation. We have the right plan to build a stronger Guild and a better future for all students at QUT.

Our plan to revitalise campus culture includes empowering clubs and societies by removing constraints, significantly increasing their funding, and introducing an additional grant program to encourage on-campus events. We will enhance social sports by launching new competitions, providing jerseys for all teams, and creating a hardship fund to support students in need.

We are committed to delivering stable, transparent, and effective governance, including the introduction of a monthly QUT Town Hall to hear your concerns and fight for you.

To improve campus safety, we will implement world-class workshops and personal safety programs. Additionally, we will work to ease cost-of-living pressures by providing free and affordable meals for students, reducing parking fees, and expanding the campus food pantry.

For a Stronger Guild and a Better Future, vote Revive.
