Georgia Newell: Left Action Free Palestine! candidate for NUS Delegate

Glass invited all Guild election candidates to submit a statement explaining why they are running and why they deserve your vote. This is your chance to hear directly from those who want to represent you—so take a moment to get to know their priorities and visions for the future.

Voting opens on Monday, 21st October 2024. You can check out the rest of the candidate statements here.

With the terror on Palestine, and now the attacks on Lebanon, it is so important that we hold the University accountable for its ties with Israel, demand divestment, and uplift and unite students to make that message loud and clear.

For that reason, I am running with Left Action Free Palestine. I believe that students at QUT deserve to have a Guild that uses its resources, funded by the students - to act against and for issues the students care about. Students deserve to have candidates who are serious about fighting against injustice. The other election groups are organised by members of the Labor and Liberal parties – they want to make excuses for our right-wing Government and University administration. Left Action Free Palestine understands the power that students hold at their universities to achieve great things, and part of that power is your vote in Guild elections. It is important to vote Left Action Free Palestine in this Guild election, as student activism is growing in Brisbane, Australia, and across the world. With more influence in the Guild, we will have access to resources and students that will help in building student activism, and ultimately, a free Palestine!
