Hi, my name is Ethan, and I currently study a Bachelor of Social Work.  I’m running for the position of Disability Officer because I’m incredibly passionate about improving accessibility at QUT and amplifying the voices of all disabled students.

During my term as the 2024 Disability Officer, I had the opportunity to work alongside the Disability Collective and Guild staff members to secure funding for the first Disability Collective safe space at Kelvin Grove.  We’ve made so much progress this year, but there is still a long way to go.  I would be incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue the work I’ve done this year at the Guild by continuing to advocate for disabled students at QUT.

One of my main goals for 2025 is to see an accessible bus route added to the current shuttle service that would bring students from the Kelvin Grove Z precinct back up the hill to the main campus.  This would be a change that benefits all students, not only disabled students; I don’t think anyone wants to walk up that hill in the rain, or when it’s 35 degrees outside.  Next year I’d also like to see increased education for staff members surrounding disability and inclusion.

The Guild is a vital changemaking and advocacy organisation for students that needs a strong, passionate SRC who are dedicated to bettering the student experience.  If you want accessibility to be improved at QUT, and want your needs genuinely represented, then myself and the other members of the Elevate ticket are the team to make that happen. We are passionate about fostering a more inclusive, equitable, and supportive environment for all students, and we’re ready to lead the way in creating lasting, positive change.
