Dear fellow international students,

Navigating life in a new country is both exciting and challenging. As an international student at QUT, I understand the unique hurdles we face—adapting to a new culture, managing academic pressures, understanding legal obligations, and building a supportive community away from home.

My Vision:

I am committed to ensuring that every international student feels welcomed, supported, and empowered at QUT. My goal is to enhance our experience by addressing key issues and providing valuable resources that cater to our unique needs.

Key Initiatives:

Tax Filing Seminars

  • Why: Many new students starting work are unfamiliar with the Australian tax system.
  • Action: Organise workshops with tax professionals to guide you through tax obligations and the filing process, ensuring compliance and peace of mind.

Legal and Safety Support

  • Challenge: Understanding legal rights and ensuring personal safety are vital concerns.
  • Action: Offer legal advisory services, conduct safety awareness programs, and collaborate with local authorities to maintain a secure campus environment.

Global Film and Documentary Series

  • Description: Curate screenings of international films and documentaries, followed by discussions with filmmakers or cultural experts.
  • Benefit: Foster global awareness, cultural exchange, and meaningful dialogue among students.

Enhanced Support Services

  • Academic and Language Assistance: Advocate for additional tutoring and language workshops to help you excel academically.
  • Mental Health and Well-being: Ensure accessible counselling services that understand the international student experience.

Cultural Integration and Community Building

  • Mentorship Programs: Pair new students with experienced peers to ease the transition into university life.
  • Cultural Events: Celebrate our diverse backgrounds through festivals and gatherings, fostering unity and friendship.
